Cousin and intimate friend and advisor to both Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt, Nicholas had a long and interesting life and career. Affixed to the front paste-down is a typed letter signed, (Tls.) from the author on New York Times stationery to a Mr. Ernest Gruening of Portland Maine. Roosevelt sends this book to Gruening, "which may be of use to you in the coming months." Gruening would later become a US Senator and Governor of Alaska.
