This Vermont Jurist and Professor of Jurisprudence at the University of Vermont was known for many things, among them his Revolutionary War service. He was also an author, and this play was performed iin New York with George Washington in attendance. It was a success. The Contrast is considered the first American comedy performed by professional actors. Tyler was a Guilford and Brattleboro Vermont resident, and is buried in Prospect Hilll Cemetery in Brattleboro.
