About Us

Austin's Antiquarian Books was founded in 1980 by myself and my wife Karen in Wells Maine. We moved to the Mountains of Vermont in 1994, and we have run our shop on the Deerfield River in Wilmington for over twenty years.

Having an open shop has provided great opportunities to meet a  number of other dealers, librarians and collectors, many of whom have become our friends.  We buy, sell and appraise single items, entire libraries or collections. We also assist with collection development for individuals and institutions.

My own collection of Western Americana was the basis of our first shop, and my interests over the years have grown and led me to collect and sell Theodore Roosevelt material as a specialty. Our shop inventory encompasses a wide selection of subjects, including Travel, Exploration; Natural History, Gardening, Sporting, Fly Fishing and unusual books in all areas.

Austin's Antiquarian Books is a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America, the main professional organization of book dealers and appraisers specializing in rare books, etc. We are also members of The Vermont Antiquarian Bookseller's Association, the Ephemera Society of America, the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers and the Independent Online Booksellers Association.   We are regular exhibitors at book fairs, paper shows, and antiques shows throughout the nation. If in the area we invite you to stop by and browse the shop, if not in the area you may browse the virtual shop through this website.
