Marbled endpapers and all edges gilt. 5 Volumes: 282; 358; 345; 386; 376pp. Each volume indexed, and with a list of three types of plates: wood engravings in the text; full page wood engravings; and steel engraved portraits of Goethe, his family, and the characters in his works. Volume I is the life of Goethe by Boyesen, and Gothe's poetry with index of first lines. Volume II is the dramas, Volume III continues drama and begins the prose. Volume IV and V continue prose. The text and illustrations are bright and clean, and the engravings are remarkably fine and precise. Minor edgewear and scuffing. Very good. Item #19428
